My father was a photographer and did panoramas in Pendleton, Oregon in the 1930's and '40s so I grew up around the Snelson Camera shop and learned all kinds of photography from an early age.
I started working with the Gigapan in October, 2008. If you're interested in the challenge of getting all your possums up the same tree at the same time the Gigapan is for you.
I've been a panoramic photographer since 1975 with a Cirkut, 16", Hulcherama, Roundshot 5" cameras. My website with sculpture, photography and other art can be seen at:

I made several panoramas in galleries of Le Louvre Museum in Paris on May 28th, 2009. All were handheld sequences stitched with the Gigapan stitcher. This is the third to be uploaded.

A handheld gigapan stitched series, taken on May 28, 2009. Remarkably the Louvre now permitsvisitors to photograph the art and the galleries. No tripods of course.

This is a trial of a scene I've shot before, but this time with a 180mm (equiv.) lens with a Canon SD 970 IS-- to see the difference between it and a 113mm lens of a Canon SD 880 IS. It's somewhat more detailed but does that justify the additional hour for stitching? Few Gigapan users remark on what an investment of time each one of these scenes requires.

This is the narrow view of the Empire State Building from a 13th Street balcony. Limited as the view is, city apartment dwellers worry always that one day another construction project will spell the end to a precious glimpse of something special in the cityscape. Luckily, the new building going up in the lower right of this snapshot leaves the Empire State still visible.
