Gigapan: CAISE Inquiry Group - Breakout Session 2
Snapshot: Breakout Group 2
Description: Our group (Mary Ann, Siobhan, Darrell, Jason, Marti) listed the types of impacts we thought online communities could have on professional development.

We then went through and starred in orange those impacts that we thought might not easily fit into the existing Impact Categories of Knowledge, Engagement, Attitude, Skill, Behavior listed in the Evaluation Framework.

Some alternative types of categories for Other, that we thought might be relevant included collective efficacy, innovation, collaboration, social capital, and professional development.

We would explore these ideas more in Breakout Session 3 the next day.

Last Post: We discussed 2 types of innovation: practice-innovation which includes things such as curriculum design (educators),exhibit design and development, and research innovation which has to do with content knowledge and evaluation methods. How can online ISE communities support those two types of innovation? -by supporting different types of innovators. We described what a typical profile of an ISE innovator would look like depending on whether they are a PI/researcher vs. a practitioner. Then we talked about collective innovation as a characteristic of the ISE community. What makes a community of researchers and practitioners innovative? How do we know if the ISE or any community is innovative? (Posted 4 days ago by Ilana Diamant (ilanadiamant))

Elsewhere in the state of Tennessee http://www.gigapan.org/viewGigapan.php?id=5849 there was some sun. I was driving partway across the US (Pennsylvania to Louisiana), and Tennessee was one of the states I drove across. Originally I planned to just capture the left side of the pano, facing the main Yuri's Night activities. But when the airshow started, a pile of people showed up, all clearly looking at something. So I continued the panorama around to see the runway and where the planes were flying. The gigapan didn't happen to capture any planes itself. Big thanks to Gokhan Soydan, who contributed the photos of the airplanes in the show, and to Scott Telstad, for some Photoshop magic. So no, there was really only one plane in the air at a time. But I like Scott's effect of putting all the planes in the panorama :-). (Posted last month by Randy Sargent (rsargent))
