San Diego, CA skyline viewed from Harbor Island (not a real island) near the airport. The San Diego / Coronado bridge joins the city to Coronado Island (a peninsula, also not an island) at right to the west.

Cliffs of La Jolla, north of San Diego, California, overlooking the La Jolla underwater park ecological reserve encompassing the area back to the fishing activity and halfway to the opposite shore. This panorama was taken at low tide which which makes the tops of the kelp beds visible. The chimney of the electric power plant up the coast is 20 miles north. Snow covered peaks are visible in the farthest distance, 75-100 miles away. The view to the left of this panorama can be seen in the separate...

This panorama records a scene which may never be seen again in the near future. In recent years, a colony of harbor seals has reclaimed it's traditional haul out site on La Jolla's Casa Beach, creating an ideal situation for viewing natural seal behavior. Unfortunately for the seals and the thousands of people who are delighted by them, a woman has successfully brought a lawsuit through the California courts to assert her right to use the beach and force the city of San Diego to dredge...

This hillside of trimmed-bush sculpture, or topiary, is located at Union and Vine in San Diego, California. Not far from Old Town. There are hundreds of figures depicted, from a surfer to all kinds of animals. It's called Harper's Topiary Hill.

This is a 360 panorama of the San Elijo Lagoon near Encinitas, California, between Solana Beach and Cardiff-by-the-sea. Shot with Canon XTi with 50 mm lens, one row shot in portrait orientation. I'm working on some ideas to do a daily time lapse of the lagoon like this, to give us a panoramic movie for future generations to see the evolution of the lagoon. I'm also trying out the use of a 400 mm lens; here is a test shot I did:

This view is from a mile north of the very southwest corner of the United States at the southern end of Imperial Beach, south of San Diego, CA. The tidal marsh at left is the Tijuana Estuary Reserve which drains into the seasonal Tijuana River at its outlet to the Pacific Ocean just south of this sand ridge. The Tijuana River's watershed is largely in Mexico. The US/Mexico border cuts along the top edge of the low hills in the distance. Closer views of the border can be seen in these Gigapa...

This panorama covers the southwest corner of the continental United States. The US/Mexico border is visible along the edge of the low hills 2 miles south of this point. The city of Tijuana is beyond the palm trees to the left of these hills. The Tijuana River watershed, largely in Mexico, flows to the Pacific Ocean through the Tijuana Estuary on the US side at Imperial Beach, south of San Diego, California. Closer views leading directly to the border can be seen in these Gigapans: http://www.gi...

About 10 miles south of San Diego and only 5 miles north of the US/Mexico border, this mountainscape on the south shore of the lower Otay reservoir is one of the few seemingly pristine landscapes remaining near San Diego. Unfortunately, only 2/10ths of a mile behind the camera are massive new housing developments.
