Shot on a beautiful February day in 2010 from the north side of the Narrows. The Tacoma Narrows Bridge is a pair of mile-long suspension bridges in the U.S. state of Washington, which carry State Route 16 across the Tacoma Narrows between Tacoma and the Kitsap Peninsula. They replaced a bridge that was opened to traffic on July 1, 1940 and which became famous four months later for a dramatic wind-induced structural collapse that was caught on motion picture film. The original span's motion earned it the nickname Galloping Gertie. In the distance you can see Mount Rainier, or Mount Tahoma, as it is traditionally called, is a large active stratovolcano (also known as a composite volcano) in Pierce County, Washington, located 54 miles (87 km) southeast of Seattle. It towers over the Cascade Range as the most prominent mountain in the contiguous United States and Cascade Volcanic Arc at 14,411 feet (4,392 m). It is the highest mountain in Washington and the Cascade Range. Lat/Lng 47.274447, -122.559526

How many modes of transportation can you find? |

Finally, I've reached the Cascades! And what a view! The rocks of North Cascades National Park are not the Quaternary volcanics that make up the modern Cascade volcanic arc (those are coming - be patient, Richard). Rather, these rocks are the deeply eroded basement of earlier arcs and accreted terranes. There are a variety of alpine glacial features visible in this shot. |

This was a compilation of photos taken from each of the 4 sides of the Washington Monument around 505 feet up. I first stitched each of the 4 views individually (north, south, east, and west) then merged the 4 panoramas into one larger one. It measures nearly 50,000 pixels wide and is the first time I haven't been able to use JPG compression... Taken around 9:45 am on January 23, 2009 - a few days after Obama took office. |

Ledge trail is a long abandoned trail that runs from the backside of Curry Village up to Glacier Point. About half way up you can cross the creek and climb up the rocks to this spectacular view. At one time power or telephone lines ran up this way, and there are a trio of eyehooks embedded in the rocks, thus my name for this spot, "Eyehook Point". From here you can see down into Yosemite Valley with a panorama that goes from Yosemite Falls to Nevada Fall and everything in between. Royal Arches, Washington Column, North Dome, Tenaya Canyon, Half Dome, Mt Watkins etc.
Check out a sunset version of this view at http://gigapan.org/viewGigapan.php?id=9985 ( unfortunately lower rez ). Check out http://geoimages.berkeley.edu/worldwidepanorama/wwp608/html/JoelBaldwin.html for a 360/180 spherical panorama from this spot. |

This is a pano of Marietta Ohio, images taken on December 26. There were 1050 images taken with my Sony H50 and Epic 100. It took about 28 hours of processing to stitch, and 8 hours to do minor color and sharpening in photoshop. |
