The south side of Devils Tower. Can you find the climbers? How about the birds? |

This is a small SEM Nano Gigapan of some volcanic glass given to us to image by Ronald Schott a Geology professor and avid gigapanner. This type of volcanic glass forms a lattice structure, and is not very dense. Hopefully Ron will talk more about it in a comment:) This gigapan is composed of 42 images. |

Latourell Falls which is about 250 feet reveals an example of columnar basalt from volcanic lava flows. The panorama was taken with a Canon 40D using exposure autobracketing. The exposures were fused in Photomatix Pro 3.2 using the adjust method. It was stitched using Autopano Giga 2.03 using the regular detection method instead of the gigapan import because the results were better. Note that if I use a 16 bit workflow that I can render the same stitch twice with exposure set for the main portion in one render and the sky in another render and then blend the top region using a mask with a gradient. I can also use the selection method, but it is problematic with the outline of the trees. The Photomatix details enhancer TMO leaves halos which would require some adjustment of parameters.

As Coldwater Creek erodes its banks, tree trunks buried by the 1980 eruption are exposed. |

This is composed of 49 images taken with a SEM. This sample was given to us to image by Ronald Schott, a Professor of Geology and avid gigapanner. |

Mammoth Hot Springs area, as seen from Upper Terraces. Mammoth Hotel complex on the left; Fort Yellowstone buildings on the right. October 16, 2008. 36 images with Canon SX110 and Gigapan. |

Looking north towards the complex ancient volcanic geology of Big Bend National Park. |

This area was in the distal region of the Devastated Zone from the May 18, 1980 Mt. St. Helens blast. Note how below the road the forest regeneration is at a far more advanced stage than above the road. This is the result of tree plantings in the lower area by the timber companies that own the land. |

Just around the corner from where Gary Rosenquist snapped the famous series of photos of the beginning of the eruption of Mount St. Helens on the morning of May 18, 1980. This is near the edge of the blast zone; many trees were knocked down here but quite a few were still standing, albeit stripped of their branches. |

The only lake in Romania that formed in a volcanic crater. This volcano was active about 10,000 years ago and is the youngest and southernmost member of the East Carpathian volcanic chain. |
