Wreaths Across America - Remember, Honor, Teach - http://www.wreathsacrossamerica.org/ This picture was taken at the Houston National Veterans Administration Cemetery by two sons of WWII veterans. “The soldier, above all other people, prays for peace, for he must suffer and bear the deepest wounds and scars of war.” - General Douglas MacArthur “I hate war as only a soldier who has lived it can, only as one who has seen its brutality, its futility, its stupidity. - General Dwight David Eisenhower “We’re gathered today, just as we have gathered before, to remember those who served, those who fought, those still missing, and those who gave their last full measure of devotion for our country… One of those who fell wrote, shortly before his death, these words: ‘Take what they have left and what they have taught you with their dying and keep it with your own. And take one moment to embrace those gentle heroes you left behind.’ Well, today, Veterans Day, as we do every year, we take that moment to embrace the gentle heroes of Vietnam and of all our wars. We remember those who were called upon to give all a person can give, and we remember those who were prepared to make that sacrifice if it were demanded of them in the line of duty, though it never was. Most of all, we remember the devotion and gallantry with which all of them ennobled their nation as they became champions of a noble cause… Our liberties, our values, all for which America stands is safe today because brave men and women have been ready to face the fire at freedom’s front. And we thank God for them.” —President Ronald Reagan "But the world must remember that it was not simply international institutions -- not just treaties and declarations -- that brought stability to a post-World War II world. Whatever mistakes we have made, the plain fact is this: The United States of America has helped underwrite global security for more than six decades with the blood of our citizens and the strength of our arms. The service and sacrifice of our men and women in uniform has promoted peace and prosperity from Germany to Korea, and enabled democracy to take hold in places like the Balkans. We have borne this burden not because we seek to impose our will. We have done so out of enlightened self-interest -- because we seek a better future for our children and grandchildren, and we believe that their lives will be better if others' children and grandchildren can live in freedom and prosperity." - President Barack Obama Sargent Bill Cahir Memorial Fund - http://www.billcahirmemorialfund.org/ God bless America and watch over our fallen heroes. |

This one wrapped itself in an unusual way.
The image is of Arroyo Del Valle, a creek that runs through a park South of Livermore California. |

In honor of Rochester’s 175th Anniversary, the City and the Veterans Outreach Center will present a special Veterans Day Concert featuring the Rochester Philharmonic Orchestra and special guests under the direction of Principal Pops Conductor Jeff Tyzik.
The Veterans Day RPO POPS Spectacular will pay tribute to Rochester’s military veterans by providing area residents an opportunity to enjoy jazz and patriotic-themed music performed by the RPO Pops for just $5 a ticket. The concert will take place at 7 p.m. on Nov. 11 in the Blue Cross Arena at the War Memorial. It will also feature performances by the Roberts Wesleyan College Chorale and trumpeter Byron Stripling. “I cannot think of a better way to celebrate the anniversary of Rochester than by honoring our veterans, especially in a time of war,” said Mayor Duffy. “We are fortunate to have one of America’s greatest orchestras right here in our city to help us mark this celebration with a heart-pounding musical performance.” Photographers Note - This GigaPan is complete at 230 photos and is 495 megapixels in size. |

So as a result of this sections 107 - 111 were not photographed, I am sorry if missed you, but as the saying goes... "The Show Must Go On!" |

This is my #2 image of the National Cemetary in Westwood, Los Angeles. The first internment here took place on May 22,1889. The 114.5 acre cemetary is now full. On this day April 2 it was overcast and again as I stated in the image #1 description I coln't shoot the name side of the headstones without risking arrest or a fine, it is emphaticaly NOT Allowed! I also noticed that for some unexplained reason none of the namesides of the 85,160 grave markers ever gets the full sun. The sun never reaches a latitude high enough that allows its full light to reach the names, only the blank sides get sunlight, go figure? Off in the distance you can find the groundskeepers cutting the lawn, a constant tesk. GigaPan panorama made up of 90 images, 150 degree view, Olympus SP350, 8mp. ©John Post |

Arroyo means "dry run creek" but this one recieves water from Hetch Hetchy to recharge our groundwater. This offers a number of cool green grottos and cover for wildlife. IT is clearly no longer a dry run creek. |

This is #1 of two GigaPan images of the National Veterans Cemetary in Los Angeles. Opened in 1889 it has 85,160 internments and is now full. I had to get permission to shoot the photo and in the process found out that you are not allowed to shoot and image facing the names on the headstones, that is why you don't see any names. I had wanted to photograph with the names showing so viewers could zoom in and identify individuals and pay tribute to the fallen veterans but I was unfortunatley met with an emphatic NO! I didn't count how many gravestones are in this image, several thousand at least. GigaPan, 45 images, Olympus SP350, April 1, 2009, ©John Post |
