This is a second attempt at a panorama looking north from the Feldberg, overlooking the Taunus forest in Germany, near Frankfurt, in Hessen. It's 56 image picture, 14x4, non-Gigapan (had battery issues that day), Olympus E510, 40-150 kit lens, ca 80mm (160mm in 35mm equivalent). Still some striping problems with the stitcher, which also has been obnoxiously flakey (0.4.3510), with numerous heap overflows. I finally got all 56 images in and saved it before it crashed during the rendering. The QC needs some work! More to come... |

The final of the Feldberg series from 20 Oct 2008. Non-Gigapan due to battery problems. This is a different view of the installation at the top of the Feldberg. As always, E 510, 40-150 mm kit lens, ca 60mm (120 mm in 35mm equivalent). Not everything worked well: lighting seems to confuse the stitcher, and there's two shots of the same contrail as the jet moved across the sky. I did take a huge montage from this viewpoint (8x14 matrix), but without the gigapan it's simply too much hit and miss to continue to try. In the mean time, I 've got two full sets of 2600mAh batteries (12 in all) that will help me avoid the battery problems I had here...I hope! |

Finally a picture made with the Gigapan! This was taken on 08 Nov looking down into Eppstein in Germany from the small platform in front of the Eppstein Castle, which had closed for the day right before we got there. The only problem I have with the Gigapan is the fact that I haven't worked out a way to properly fix the release trigger on the E510. I tried velcro and it doesn't hold well enough, and while I now have a remote release, I had forgotten it (my bad) and had to take this manually. This is one of three I took. Olympus E510, 14-40mm kit lens, 40mm. Exposure was 1/30th second at f5.6, measured by a hand-held incident light meter. Unforturnately, we were shooting into the sunset, hence the completely washed-out sky. |
