Left to right how many miles do you think you can see? How many towns and highlights along US395 can you see? What along the portal road can you find? campgrounds, houses, road junctions, etc |

Left is the Forth Road Bridge. When it opened in the early 1960s it was the largest suspension bridge in Europe, and the 4th largest in the world. Now it carries vehicles to/from the Kingdom of Fife into the Edinburgh area. Right is the very beautiful Forth (rail) Bridge - a testament to Scottish engineering in the Victorian era. Once described as the most overly-engineered structure in the world, it is a potent symbol for the people of Scotland. We love it. n.b. it is undergoing maintenance work just now, hence the shrouding. Apolgies to all Giga-Pan folk in the States, but this knocks spots off your Golden Gate Bridge - and before you ask, yes I've crossed them both. |
