________________________________ This is the same Hanauma Bay panorama as http://gigapan.org/viewGigapan.php?id=4450. It's 70 columns X 25 rows of individual 8 megapixel frames stitched almost seamlessly by the GigaPan stitcher. Wave movement and people movement result in some interesting, often fun, stitching results, though. Mahalo nui loa to Scott Telstad for fixing the exposure anomalies on the fully stitched image. |

Hawaii Pacific University Modern Media Systems class on the Fort Street Mall in Downtown Honolulu. Question of the day: how can a collaboration that includes Carnegie Mellon University, NASA, GOOGLE, National Geographic, and faculty and students at Hawaii Pacific University expand our understanding of modern media systems? In other words, what emerging, unique potentials are being leveraged by these institutions and their communities in our network of networks project? In part this image constitutes an exploration and manifestation of image-making technologies that provide opportunities for meta-connectivity and global community building. A compelling aspect of the global connection project is its attention to transparency. Transparency of technology, transparency of process, and drill down ability in the composite image itself.. |

These spectacular cliffs along the Ka`iwi Coast of O`ahu are next to the parking lot for the Moloka`i Lookout, between Hanauma Bay and the Hālona Blowhole. One cloud bank passed by, giving a dark band at about the 40% area. This is a 18 row x 48 column image. I thought it would be much larger, but I probably set the angle of view incorrectly and got too much overlap between images. How many fishermen can you find? |

The boardwalk in the middle of the frame runs through the short stature rainforest of the Mount Ka`ala Natural Area Reserve bog. It is located on Waianae volcano (West Oahu), and at just about 4,000 feet, is the highest spot on the island of O`ahu. |
|
The Ka`iwi Coast of east O`ahu. This area was purchased from a private owner to protect the open space. This slice of O`ahu's coastline includes Makapu`u Point (behind), Sandy Beach (Sandy's), the Halona Blowhole, From Here to Eternity Beach, Hanauma Bay, and Koko Crater. Koko Head is near the top left of the image. Koko Crater is a volcanic tuff cone. It is higher to the southwest; the trade winds from the northeast blowing the ash so that it piled up on the downwind side. This same structure is apparent at Diamond Head and Punchbowl craters. All of the cinder cones and lava flows along Ka`iwi are from the Koko Fissure that erupted less than 100,000 years ago, long after the formation of the Ko`olau volcano (2 million years) that comprises the eastern section of Oahu. |

The South Shore of Oahu from Point Panic in Kakaako. From here you can see the harbor, Ala Moana Beach Park, Magic Island, Waikiki and Diamond Head and some newly weds on the balcony of the John Dominis restaurant. |

378 frame image taken with the GigaPan, but stitched with APPro 1.4.2.
See http://share.gigapan.org/viewGigapan.php?id=4133 for same gigapan stitched with the gigapan stitcher. The pre-rendering tools of APPro are just fantastic. Unfortunately, you still can't upload directly from APPro, and it doesn't save in PhotoShop RAW format, so I had to downsize from ~46,000 pixels wide to 30,000 pixels wide in order to save as a .tif file to upload. APPro saves .psb format, but I could not get PhotoShop CS2 to make a clean conversion to PS-RAW, therefore the use of .tif. |

A view of part of Windward O`ahu from the top of Makapuu Point, near the far eastern end of the island. The banding, again, is caused by using manual exposure and having banks of clouds blocking the sun. |
