This project by Frank Gehry in cooperation with Vlado Milunic marks the corner at the Jiraskuv Bridge. Officially named the 'Rasin Building,' soon after its conception it was dubbed 'Ginger and Fred,' as it dances like the famous couple Rogers and Astaire around the corner.
420 pictures at focal length of 400mm, ISO 200, F8, 1/200 Have a look at the building from the other side: http://gigapan.org/viewGigapan.php?id=8834 Any commercial use or publication of the image, in whole or in part, without prior written authorization of the copyright holder is strictly prohibited. |

Hawaii Pacific University Modern Media Systems class on the Fort Street Mall in Downtown Honolulu. Question of the day: how can a collaboration that includes Carnegie Mellon University, NASA, GOOGLE, National Geographic, and faculty and students at Hawaii Pacific University expand our understanding of modern media systems? In other words, what emerging, unique potentials are being leveraged by these institutions and their communities in our network of networks project? In part this image constitutes an exploration and manifestation of image-making technologies that provide opportunities for meta-connectivity and global community building. A compelling aspect of the global connection project is its attention to transparency. Transparency of technology, transparency of process, and drill down ability in the composite image itself.. |

On the left side the famous house by Frank Gehry in cooperation with Vlado Milunic marks the corner at the Jiraskuv Bridge. Officially named the 'Rasin Building,' soon after its conception it was dubbed 'Ginger and Fred,' as it dances like the famous couple Rogers and Astaire around the corner.
By mistake I used auto focus instead of manual focus. Therefore I missed a few pictures from the sky and the water. I took me a while to patch the missing parts. Around 190 pictures at focal length of 410mm, ISO 200, F8, 1/250 You may have a very detailed view on the 'Ginger and Fred' house: http://gigapan.org/viewGigapanFullscreen.php?id=7677 |

From the overpass just beyond the Mannerheim Statue, I saw this busy vista.
On the left is Finland's Parliament House, which came into use in 1931. The Parliamant is a unicameral body of 200 members who are elected for two terms. Among its many tasks, the Parliament makes laws, sets the national budget, approves treaties and oversees the government of Finland. On the right is the Museum of Contemporay Art Kiasma, which opened in May 1998. In addition to its art exhibits, it is a popular meeting place for the folks of Helsinki. Between the Parliament building and the Museum are the remains of the VR Warehouses which were built from 1891 to the 1950's. They served as a cargo area for the Helsinki train station. Their role as warehouses ended by the 1980's, and they deteriorated with disuse, but they could be rented by for special events. Around 2000, the warehouses were the site of some heavy metal concerts and some unusual conventions. A major fire, with some controversy surrounding it, damaged hte buildings badly in 2006, and now this is the demolition site that you see here. The new Helsinki Music Centre may occupy this space in panoramas of the future. |
