View over the london suburbs from Tolworth tower (http://www.tolworthtower.co.uk/) located to the South west of London.
Taken with kind permission and co-operation from the facilities manager. Approx 700 images with canon 500D and 55-250IS at 250mm, 400mm at 35mm equivilant, with some lower focal length shots to fill in gaps around the edges. Stitched with Autopano pro 2. For more high resolution panoramas, check my profile here, or my website at http://lifeinmegapixels.com for wallpapers, time-lapse photography and even more images. |

The fourth of four gigapans I took along the South Bank. I love this scene for the range of architecture on display. There is nearly 1000 years of building in this shot.
I would have liked to continue my journey eastward along the Thames but didn't have the time. In any case Denmca has beaten me to it: http://www.gigapan.org/viewGigapan.php?id=27970. For this shot I used my Sony at maximum zoom (x15) with its £99 1.7x teleconverter giving me 80 rows by 16 columns (1280 images). There is a lot of sky in this image partly because I like sky (when it is blue) but mainly because I wanted to get all of City Hall in the shot too. Unfortunately I was running late and had to stop the gigapan before it got to City Hall - just off to the right. I nearly killed myself struggling back to the train station with all my gigapanning gear but missed the train :-) The shot is foreshortened because of a long handrail right in front of the camera. Normally I wouldn't bother about having something like that in the image even if it was out of focus, but on this occasion I decided discretion was the better part of valor since I was running late and the image was already 80 by 16. (Actually it was 95 by 16 but I couldn't get the first 15 columns to stitch with the rest.) This is by far the largest gigapan I have created. It crashed the gigapan stitcher. After lots of crashes and lots of jumping up and down cursing all things French, I finally persuaded Autopano to stitch and render it. But the gigapan uploader crashed :-) Finally I discovered version 0.4.4154 (Windows) of the gigapan uploader and that worked. For the view to the West see http://www.gigapan.org/viewGigapan.php?id=25106. This gigapan replaces the "10GPix" version of the same scene. It turns out that I didn't use the right settings in APP so the original gigapan was scaled up by a factor of 0.8 in both dimensions. This version was stitched with the GP stitcher and is the correct size. The original (now private so as not to show up as the 5th largest gigapan) is here: http://tinyurl.com/l9ryzd. |

First quick test using a Canon 550D/Rebel T2i with the Gigapan Epic 100.
The image has been taken from my flat in London. There are some bright spots in the picture caused by the quickly changing sky between clouds and Sun. But anyway, this was purely meant as a test shoot anyway. |

View from Trafalgar Way, overlooking the Blackwall basin towards the O2 (Millennium Dome)
This is my first time I am using an Epic 100 together with a Canon EOS 500D. There are some stitching errors in the picture, which I can't really explain yet. |

The image has been taken on a wonderful sunny autumn day in Londons Regent's Park. The equipment used was a Gigpan Epic 100. Canon EOS 500D (Rebel T1i) with a Tamron 70-300 mm lens. |

Another test shoot using the Canon 550D/Rebel T2i. This time done during the evening. Exposures time was 5 seconds per image. |

This is looking to the North. I don't know London at all and have no idea what the various buildings are apart from the one on the right, and that's only because it has its name written on it :)
[Update: I have now learned that the bridge you can see is Waterloo Bridge. For the view from the other side of the bridge see http://www.gigapan.org/viewGigapan.php?id=24978.] Feel free to take snapshots of buildings you know. The GP stitcher seems to have mangled the projection somewhat, but still, I like this image. Did you know you can see the London Eye from The Serpentine? It's true: http://www.gigapan.org/viewGigapan.php?id=19473&snapshot_id=58777. For an alternative view see http://www.gigapan.org/viewGigapan.php?id=8264. |

This was the first large gigapixel panorama I have taken using the Merlin/Papywizard combination. There are a number of issues in the pictures, partially due to the fact that the Merlin and the camera was not leveled 100% correctly.
Anyway, it was mainly still part of an exercise to test the setup, and as such it is not too bad. The camera used for this was the EOS 500D with an 18-270 SuperZoom lens. |

This picture was taken as part of a promotion for Sky Movies Action Season.
The shooting location was on the roof of the IET building near Waterloo Bridge in London with a spectacular view over the river Thames towars the southbank. There are a number of Sky Movies and action character related changes within the picture. Some were really there, while others had been added in post production. Enjoy the hunt for Bruce Willis and his colleagues. Additional details can be found at the Sky movies website (http://movies.sky.com/panoramic-picture) and at my own blog (http://www.mikehellers.com/blog). |
