This is third incarnation of the University of Leuven's library building. The first version was built in 1725 and burned down by Germans in 1914. The second version, finished in 1928, was destroyed during the German invasion of 1940. |

Camera: Canon G-10 Conditions: indoor, low-light, so taken with flash, ISO 250, also automatic focus Note: Even with non-ideal settings, and subsequent graininess, substantial detail is still easily detected. Though flash did slow down the process, it didn't drain the camera battery as badly as I thought. ~60 images. |

During the 1930s, NYC Mayor Fiorello LaGuardia named the two lion statues: Patience and Fortitude, for the qualities New Yorkers would need to survive the economic depression. OMG - we'll need new names for the depression of 2008. |

Taken from the Peace Tower at the centre block of the Parliament buildings in Ottawa which is a bell tower dedicated shortly after the end of WWI to commemorate Canada's war effort and sacrifices. As are all of the Parliament complex, the tower is made in a neo-gothic style. From the observation deck, one can see sweeping views of the Ottawa river valley. This hand-held panorama looks to the north and the Gatineau, Quebec side of the river. The ornate round structure is the Parliamentary Library, the only building of the original Parliament complex which survived a catastophic fire in 1916. An interior panorama of the library is available if you search for "Parliamentary Library" and an interior panorama of the House of Commons, too. Search for keyword "Parliament, Ottawa".
