‘This View of Life’ showcases the melding of artistic and scientific disciplines in this year of celebration for Charles Darwin. This group exhibition presents recent work from contemporary Canadian artists and features collaborative projects created with scientists from the University of Guelph. The investigation of evolutionary theory is not limited to the lab, field or fossil bed. Darwinian theory, after a century and a half, continues to inspire creativity which perpetuates the evolution of these ideas in their own right. Forms of expression can be compared to instruments of observation, magnifying some aspects of evolution while masking or distorting others. These exhibits offer unique perspectives into the nature and scope of biological novelty, organic variation, and evolving life forms. The reception featured artwork, biological specimens, and presentations by project participants. Artwork is exhibited at the Ed Video Gallery and in the Atrium of the Science Complex for the duration of the show. The setup was also GigaPan-ed: http://www.gigapan.org/gigapans/35023/ October 9 - 30, 2009 U of G campus & Ed Video Arts Center In Darwin's year, also check out a GigaPan of Down House, the home of Charles and Emma Darwin. http://www.gigapan.org/gigapans/24896/ |

A series of super warm days - and the snow is GONE! The ground is still frozen, but the cover's been lost. The forecast for the weekend here is for rain rain rain and so next week's likely to be even more brown and leafy. Is this spring? Our new backyard on Division street in Guelph. The dog and the people are pretty happy with it!
Took out two columns of photos to make a < 360, but it stiched as 360. That's the seam on the edge of the garage. The house is on the Municipal Register of Cultural Heritage Properties Non-Designated Properties list (Burcher-Stokes Properties) in Guelph - largely for a window with semi-elliptical arch and keystone on the front of the house. http://guelphmercury.blogs.com/59_carden_st/2009/05/are-you-on-the-list.html http://guelph.ca/uploads/PBS_Dept/planning/heritageguelph/Registry/Heritage_Directory_properties_interest.pdf pg 49 of 263 page pdf. |

A corner of the Speed River in downtown Guelph Ontario at dusk, June 16 2009.
As a major tributary to the Grand River, the Speed is a Canadian Heritage River (designated in 1994). This is just upstream from Goldie Mill park - an old wheat mill, flour mill, tannery, distillery and a warehouse - that was destroyed by fire in 1953 but has been maintained as a heritage site by the Grand River Conservation Authority since 1976. |

University of Guelph - Dairy Bush - 28 - March 03 2010
Warm, sunny day. We've had several days in a row now of temperatures below zero overnight, while daytime highs have gone up to 5C. The dump of snow we had last week is slowly melting! More warm days are forecast for the coming week - so there may be more leaves and ground in next week's panorama. Windy day. Some small flurries today while shooting, but it remains a very poor winter for snow accumulation here in Guelph. Hopefully what we've got will stay - the next week's forecast is for a little warmer than seasonable temperatures (Highs of -2C, lows of -8C).
