The Royal Gorge Bridge is a tourist attraction near Cañon City, Colorado, within a 360 acre (1.5 km²) theme park, hanging 1,053 feet (321 m) above the Arkansas River and billed as the highest suspension bridge in the world. The Royal Gorge Route Railroad runs under the bridge along the base of Royal Gorge. The bridge is 1260 feet (384 m) long and 18 feet (5 m) wide, with a wooden walkway with 1292 planks. The bridge is suspended from towers that are 150 feet (46 m) high.
The panorama is made of 480 pictures at focal length of 400mm. Due to file size limitations I have uploaded a smaller version only. Any commercial use or publication of the image, in whole or in part, without prior written authorization of the copyright holder is strictly prohibited. |

Originally intended to be about twice as wide, my Gigapan Beta unit contracted the deadly Whirling Dervish/Spiral of Death disease upon completing column number 38. (Fear not, it's fixed now - a relatively low tech solution, I simply "unwound" the robot. Aaahh, the joys of Beta testing!)
Nonetheless, the resulting image is a compelling look at the Weber Sandstone which is folded into an anticline (south limb visible in the gigapan) that is cleaved by the downcutting Green River. Hogbacks of the yellow and red Park City Formation lap onto the south side of the Weber like waves breaking on a beach. The red siltstones of the Triassic Moenkopi Formation form a strike valley at the right of the image - to the west this strike valley is known as the Racetrack as it wraps around the nose of the plunging Split Mountain Anticline. |

Authorized by the city of Canon City in 1929 the bridge is the highest suspension bridge over water in the world (1,053 feet). The river below is the Arkansas River. Note in the image the tourist train in the canyon and the wite-water rafters on the river. A helicopter is captured in three places as it does flight seeing. An aerial tram is seen in the far right of image. The image was caught with an Epic GigaPan and a Canon G10 having a 1.4X teleextender attached, giving an effective 200mm focal length. The GigaPan was optimized in Photoshop CS4. |

Six Mile bend on the Fraser River at Fountain gorge north of Lillooet, BC.
This is my first uploaded Gigapan!!! (on a dial-up, no less!) It took 9hr. 40min to upload. About this area: The Fountain area of the Fraser has been inhabited by the local natives (Xaxli'p First Nation) for more than 8000 years. It's also one of the hottest and driest parts of BC with temps reaching 45C in midsummer. The railway line in the lower foreground is CN, formerly part of the PGE which snakes along the Fraser from Lillooet to Pavilion and then climbs the steep grades to Kelly Lake and Clinton. |

this photo was taken in the very center. Stonehenge was built by Sam Hill, a road builder, as a memorial to those who died in World War I. Dedicated in 1918, the memorial wasn?t completed until 1930. Hill passed away soon after he finally saw his masterpiece completed. He was buried at the base of the bluff; but, because he wished to be left alone, there is no easy path to his resting place.

Clifton Bridge crossing the Avon Gorge. Built by Isambard Kingdom Brunel and opened in 1864 and Sion Hill houses (Bristol's postcard row) from the west end of the bridge. Quick Gigapan of 189 shots
Camera Canon SX1 Manual settings. Contrast adjusted in Photoshop and edges cropped. |

Latourell Falls which is about 250 feet reveals an example of columnar basalt from volcanic lava flows. The panorama was taken with a Canon 40D using exposure autobracketing. The exposures were fused in Photomatix Pro 3.2 using the adjust method. It was stitched using Autopano Giga 2.03 using the regular detection method instead of the gigapan import because the results were better. Note that if I use a 16 bit workflow that I can render the same stitch twice with exposure set for the main portion in one render and the sky in another render and then blend the top region using a mask with a gradient. I can also use the selection method, but it is problematic with the outline of the trees. The Photomatix details enhancer TMO leaves halos which would require some adjustment of parameters.
