Franklinite is the black metallic mineral in this closeup. Franklinite is a ZnFe2O4 mineral named for the town of Franklin, NJ.
I've had lots of troubles stitching macrogigapans of rocks like this - this is one of the first that stitched successfully. Apologies for not including a scale - most of the franklinite grains are 2-4mm in diameter. |

This photo was taken from the top of Bald Knob in Rocky Mount, Virginia. It is one of my first panoramas and is hand made. No automatic equipment was used in gathering the images. I used three greatly overlapping horizontal passes in shooting the scene. This allowed me the opportunity to carefully dissolve in the foreground trees to adjust for the light breeze that was blowing. After creating this image, I knew I wanted to do more.
The image was shot with a Canon Rebel XTi. Overall dimensions are 27,415 x 5,519. |
