One of the Mount Rainier's most famous attractions, 168-foot Narada Falls, offers visitors exquisite views. Veiling over a wall of basalt, this glacier fed falls drops in a lacy display stretching over 75 feet at its peak flow. Those looking for more adventure will enjoy the nine mile Narada Falls Trail meandering through old growth forests, with views of Carter and Madcap Falls as well as its namesake falls. |

"Along the crest of the Santa Cruz Mountains, Castle Rock State Park embraces coast redwood, Douglas-fir, and madrone forest, most of which has been left in its wild, natural state. Steep canyons are sprinkled with unusual rock formations that are popular with rock climbers." - http://www.parks.ca.gov/?page_id=538 |

This is the first 360 degree GigaPan I made during the May fofs Workshop. It is on a steep forested eastern slope of Flagstaff Hill. The goal was to experiment with the focus and exposure challenges in forests, and to explore the potential for capturing vegetation community information from GigaPans. Ignoring the standard GigaPan protocols, the camera was set for automatic exposure (program mode), automatic focus, ISO 200, and the lens was not zoomed in all the way. The panoramic coverage exceeds 360 degrees, despite the fact that this Web site reports a field of view of 306 degrees. Making this test on a steep slope allowed me to capture the lower forest canopy as well as the forest floor with only two rows of photos. |

Friends of the Pittsburgh Urban Forest received PennVest money to green 5 parking lots in East Liberty. This shot shows the parking lot as concrete is being dug out in preparation for trees. |
