spacer Trata-se de um conjunto de favelas composto, atualmente por 4 comunidades:Vila Estrela, Barragem Santa Lúcia, Vila Santa Rita de Cássia e Vila Nossa Senhora da Esperança (antigo Bicão, região mais precária quanto à qualidade de vida). Está localizado na região Sul de Belo Horizonte, em meio a bairros de classe média e classe média alta, como Sion, Santo Antônio, Belvedere, São Bento, Vila Paris, São Pedro e Luxemburgo.A constituição do Aglomerado deu-se, paulatinamente deste o início do século XX, pois que há relatos de moradores que nasceram na Vila Estrela há mais de oitenta anos 7 são descendentes de escravos que pertenceram, provavelmente, à antiga Fazenda do Leitão, à qual pertenceu o atual casarão do Museu Histórico Abílio Barreto.Sobre a existência desta fazenda há registros que datam desde pelo menos 1854(Registro de Terras)8. Nos relatos das entrevistadas, bem como nos registros do Livro do Tombo da Paróquia Nossa Senhora do Morro somos informados sobre o aumento do número de habitantes principalmente a partir da década de 1940. A razão desta mudança é o chamado êxodo rural. Pessoas oriundas do interior de Minas Gerais e até de outros Estados buscam, em Belo Horizonte, condições melhores de vida e acaba me instalando-se naquela localidade, à época conhecida como a região do “Mendonça”.7. Relato da Sra. Santa da Silva Ferreira, 86 anos, primogênita da mais antiga família estabelecida na Vila Estrela. Ela nasceu naquela comunidade e afirma ter o seu pai sido escravo de uma antiga fazenda da região.8. Velhos Horizontes – um ensaio sobre a moradia no Curral Del Rei.13

spacer This Gigapan was shot from a pedestrian bridge that was seriously shaking as people were walking by. Still, the images are relatively sharp and the panorama stitched pretty well, the only effect of the shaking being the somewhat irregular panorama boundary.
