Cliffs of La Jolla, north of San Diego, California, overlooking the La Jolla underwater park ecological reserve encompassing the area back to the fishing activity and halfway to the opposite shore. This panorama was taken at low tide which which makes the tops of the kelp beds visible. The chimney of the electric power plant up the coast is 20 miles north. Snow covered peaks are visible in the farthest distance, 75-100 miles away. There is a bench at this viewpoint that served us well when we watched the last rays of the day pass over the hills. It was a quicker walk back down than it was to get up here. I saw a cute little bobcat on the way down that looked like a hefty house cat with a short tail. |

Red Lake Peak and Stevens Peak reside to the south of Lake Tahoe, alongside of Highway 88, near Carson Pass. This is a very popular area for backcountry skiing, snowmobiling, and other winter recreation.
I accidentally switched my G9 out of manual focus mode and only discovered it about halfway through the shooting so unfortunately the chutes behind the foreground rocks, and to the left of Stevens Peak are out of focus when you zoom in. |

This GigaPan (# 1 of three) was taken Jan. 18, 2008 on a balmy day in LA. I wanted to get a shot of the new building going up near the Staples Center in downtown before it was completed on the outside. I found this vantage point with the palm trees, which I think gives a nice environmental setting. You can see cars on the Harbor Freeway (110 Hwy) and the mural on one of the buildings next to it. This panorama records a scene which may never be seen again in the near future. In recent years, a colony of harbor seals has reclaimed it's traditional haul out site on La Jolla's Casa Beach, creating an ideal situation for viewing natural seal behavior. Unfortunately for the seals and the thousands of people who are delighted by them, a woman has successfully brought a lawsuit through the California courts to assert her right to use the beach and force the city of San Diego to dredge it to evict the seals. Their only hope now is that the Federal Marine Mammal Protection Act will trump the state court rulings and allow them this one small patch of sand.

2009 Conejo Valley annual Gem and Mineral Show. This was done with a Canon S5 is and the Gigapan Epic 100. I set the ISO to 400 to keep the exposure resonalble, but this still resulted in a number of image blurs. This was taken from the balcony area overlooking what is normally a basketball court. |
