Not the best lighting, but sometimes you have to take what you can get. |

A beautiful evening at the 2009 Bristol balloon fiesta saw over 90 balloons launched from Ashton Park. Great to see the piper flying again after many years. Spot the UP balloon with it's house underneath too. The tower is the camera obscura, the first panoramic viewer where you view the image projected through the periscope on a white dished horizontal table. This is a picture of the Wenatchee River where it passes through Leavenworth, Washington taken on the 11th of October 2008 from a bridge just east of the city center on Hwy 2.
It is made from 10 photos across by 19 photos down at 9MP resolution at max optical zoom of 10X. I had a bit too much overlap, at ~50%, but oh well. Still, not bad for my first one. |

The ridgeline at the center of South Mountain Park offers a full view of the Phoenix area. From snow capped peaks 50 miles to the east to the open desert of the west this 360 degree pano shows it all. It was not a perfectly clear day but you can still see the snow on Mount Lemmon, over 90 miles away to the south. In downtown, among the high rises you can see a gigantic portrait of Yao Ming, put on the side of the building across from the site of the NBA Allstar Game as part of an advertisement for T-Mobile. All four major sports venues are visible as well as ASU's Sun Devil Stadium. |

The Royal Gorge Bridge is a tourist attraction near Cañon City, Colorado, within a 360 acre (1.5 km²) theme park, hanging 1,053 feet (321 m) above the Arkansas River and billed as the highest suspension bridge in the world. The Royal Gorge Route Railroad runs under the bridge along the base of Royal Gorge. The bridge is 1260 feet (384 m) long and 18 feet (5 m) wide, with a wooden walkway with 1292 planks. The bridge is suspended from towers that are 150 feet (46 m) high.
The panorama is made up of around 500 pictures at focal length of 600mm. |

... and a more obstructed view of the Snake River, no need to crop his shot, and considerably worse light... |

Second attempt, still a stitching error...over there on the left. However, it's one of my own doing, as there was a duplicate photo in the sky. Somewhere I lost one single frame and rather than delete three columns, I duplicated one photo. The stitcher knew no mercy, however, and hence the artifact there. But this time no problem with the church off to the right, as was the case with the others. Lots of detail here, zoom in and see who's walking around! As always for this batch, date was off, taken not 30 Apr 2009, but rather 30 May 2009 |

Ohiopyle Falls on the Youghiogheny River at Ohiopyle, PA is the largest waterfall in western Pennsylvania. At the center of Ohiopyle State Park the falls marks the beginning of the fabled "lower Yough" a favorite of kayakers. After two heavy rains, the Yough was running high and muddy. |

The San Jacinto river (properly the west fork of the river) flows through Montgomery County, Texas from Lake Conroe to Lake Houston. River flow is typically light and is controlled by the release of water from Lake Conroe. In dry periods one can walk across the river at mid-calf depth. Between I-45 and Hwy 242, the river has a number of wide sand beaches. Although there is no park or official sanction for recreational use, the river is home to four wheelers, offroad trucks, skeet shoots, poaching, and the occasional ad hoc driving range. Motorized vehicles can receive a ticket from game wardens if the are in the river bed, but this is a minimal deterrent. |
