My first 1Gpix+ image taken with a GigaPan Unit.

This project by Frank Gehry in cooperation with Vlado Milunic marks the corner at the Jiraskuv Bridge. Officially named the 'Rasin Building,' soon after its conception it was dubbed 'Ginger and Fred,' as it dances like the famous couple Rogers and Astaire around the corner.
420 pictures at focal length of 400mm, ISO 200, F8, 1/200 Have a look at the building from the other side: http://gigapan.org/viewGigapan.php?id=8834 Any commercial use or publication of the image, in whole or in part, without prior written authorization of the copyright holder is strictly prohibited. |

This 180 degree panorama is taken from the top of Oppenheimer tower in Soweto, a huge township "south and west" of Johannesburg. Soweto has some 7 million inhabitants. |

The weather for the day of this pano was supposed to "heavy rain", so it was a big surprise to find myself in a quiet field with this spectacular view and wonderful weather.
In fact, I would go so far as to say it was an uplifting experience. Later on I slipped and ended up falling completely flat into six inches of liquid mud, and my reaction was to lie there and laugh out loud. See http://www.gigapan.org/viewGigapan.php?id=10384 for an alternative view. This shot was taken was taken from here: http://www.gigapan.org/viewGigapan.php?id=25860&snapshot_id=78552. Bath is on the other side of the big hill on the horizon. The place I took this gigapan is just over the hill from here: http://www.gigapan.org/viewGigapan.php?id=9802&snapshot_id=28947. If you look carefully you can see the radio masts are the same in both panos. |

Taken from the roof of Bath College's Macaulay building in ten minutes between showers.

This is a famous location for finding fossils on the Dorset coast. Some really big and important finds were made in the late 1800s. The sea is constantly washing more of the cliff down onto the beach providing new opportunities for that once-in-a-lifetime find.
I had hoped to get the focus good enough for geologists to look at individual rocks in the cliff, but as you can see, I didn't quite nail it. The next bay to the East (right) at Seatown is here: http://tinyurl.com/m3f8ap. |

What does the man on the blue exercise ball see when he looks around the recording studio of the TWiT Cottage? See for yourself!
If you log in on GigaPan.org you can take a "snapshot" and comment on items of interest around the studio. It might be interesting to see how many of these can be linked to references in specific netcasts... This nearly complete spherical perspective is best appreciated when viewed in Google Earth. This GigaPan was shot with a Canon SX10 IS camera on the Epic100 robot from GigaPan Systems (http://www.gigapansystems.com/). The GigaPan was stitched from 160 original 10 megapixel images shot as a 20 column by 8 row grid, over a span of about 10 minutes. The resolution of this GigaPan is far less than this camera is capable of (I didn't use full zoom), simply because I didn't want to take more of Leo's time after the show than necessary. There are a number of stitching errors in this GigaPan that are not strictly the fault of the GigaPan Stitcher software. For example, the Stitcher software successfully stitched the chatroom text, but consequently misaligned the edges of the monitor. This reflects the time that passed between images and the fact that the scrolling text has more unique control points for stitching than the monitor edges. Other stitching misalignments may be due to the fact that I didn't actually have the camera's nodal point precisely centered (since this is not generally necessary for the majority of distant landscape shots I've been taking most of my current trip - e.g.: http://ron.outcrop.org/blog/?p=384). |
