The pit and the arena at the Pittsburgh FIRST robotics competition during the alliance selection phase. Almost all the teams are in the stands and watching the selection process. The alliance selection is a crucial part of the competition - the top 8 seeded teams from the qualifying matches choose partners with which they form an alliance - giving the chosen teams a chance to be on the winning alliance.

As fun as these competitions are to watch Tom, I get a sense from the pictures it's a long hard weekend for the kids? The teamwork involved getting your machine to work as designed, the competition of honour between teams, and I get a sense there are some big company names in the crowd, scouting kids and teams for possible devellopment jobs in big industry. In spite of the fun we make of some of the pictures, it would appears these kids are working thier butts off . . . best of luck to them all!

Having been a participant in a regional and national competition, it's a very tough weekend (unless you are on one of the lucky teams who have no problems with their robots). I want to point out that I didn't take the snapshots - anyone with an account can take snapshots on any gigapan. I wish this gigapan had some more positive snapshots than it does currently....
